@Nataly_Novak_137 shared with us:

Bilibili:  https://www.bilibili.com/

Bilibili is a great website to watch Chinese video, it has most of the Chinese series. Bilibili is a premium service, but there are always several ongoing shows that are free. You can watch shows without logging in or go for their premium service. Be warned, though, the registration test is said to be a little difficult… but not impossible!

WeTV (English): https://wetv.vip/en

WeTV is a streaming service from Tencent. You’ll find a variety of Chinese TV shows and even live video and gaming videos on it. You can also head to their Tencent animation youtube channel. You’ll find the most famous Tencent Animations from WeTV.

@cudlefeeeesh shared with us:

Viki: https://www.viki.com/

Viki has a great collection of Chinese videos and is a well-known destination for watching Asian dramas. The selection is quite nice, but the (soft) subs are hard to find sometimes. Soft subs are subtitles you can add from a file.

@Micha shared with us:

iQiyi: https://www.iq.com/

爱奇艺 – iQiyi also has a great collection of Chinese dramas and has many traditional Chinese subtitles, and sometimes English. Some videos are free, and others will require a premium account. As Discord user @hami said, 爱奇艺 is basically the Chinese equivalent of Netflix.

Mango tv: https://w.mgtv.com/

On Mango, you’ll find many videos from China, all in Chinese with Chinese subtitles mostly. They also often have traditional and sometimes English subtitles. Check out the culture category!

Vidol Tv: https://vidol.tv/

Vidol TV is a Taiwanese video service with a lot of videos in traditional Chinese. You may need to sign up to see some videos.

LineTV: https://www.linetv.tw/ and Sohu TV https://tv.sohu.com/

If you’re in Taiwan, you can also check out Line TV and Sohu Tv to watch traditional Chinese videos. These two are region-restricted, so if you’re not based in Taiwan, sorry, you can’t watch the videos there.

Mydramalist: https://mydramalist.com/

A website specialized in reviewing Drama from Asian countries. A great website to look for the perfect fit for a drama to your taste. There’s often the link or the Chinese name to then look for it in other services.

@Hami shared with us:

Youku 优酷视频 https://youku.com/

Youku has many Chinese videos from TV Series, dramas, movies, anime, and so on. Better to sign up to get a better quality of subs (in Chinese).

Tencent Video China: https://v.qq.com/

It’s quite the same as WeTV, but for a Chinese audience.

ACFun: https://www.acfun.cn/

While the website may look made for a younger audience, it has a lot of different content. From Anime, Live Streaming, entertainment, music, films, and more. You explore!

人人视频: https://www.rr.tv/#/

Available on mobile, Renren Video has the latest western series and Netflix movies with Chinese subtitles (translated by semi-professionals).

Let us know if we can add more to this list on our Discord server right here: https://discord.gg/WuYEq39n53

As a meat-eater, you’ll find yourself in heaven in China. There are all sorts of meats to discover and eat! And by all sorts, we really do mean all sorts, including parts you perhaps seldom eat. So, to make deciphering a Chinese menu easier, there’s a whole new stage on Ninchanese dedicated to meats!  To give you a taste, here’s a list of the essential Chinese meat vocabulary to know … and that you’ll be learning on the app. Warning: this list of Chinese words for meat may make you very hungry!

A Meat Stall in Market, with different cuts of Meat

Ready to learn how to say different cuts of meat in Chinese? So you can easily order yummy slices of meat for your next 火锅 huǒ guō hot pot? Or finally, know what kind of meat is in Chinese dumplings? Then Chinese Meat recipes will hold no secret for you!

First, let’s see how to say meat in Chinese as well as Chicken, Turkey, Pork, Lamb, Duck, Veal, and Beef in Chinese.

And no, don’t even ask, we won’t be talking about cat meat in Chinese or any other kind of strange meat (it seems like people look up rat meat in Chinese? The horror). Dog Meat is sometimes eaten in winter because it’s super caloric meat to eat, but we’ve never come across any other type, so enough with the rumors! Alright? Here we go.

Types of Meat in Chinese

Word Pinyin Meaning

猪肉 zhū ròu pork
牛肉 niú ròu beef
小牛肉 xiǎo niú ròu veal
火鸡 huǒ jī turkey
鸡肉 jī ròu chicken meat
羊肉 yáng ròu lamb
duck

Good to know: In China, you’ll often come across dish names that simply say ròu Meat. In most restaurants (the obvious exception being Halal Uyghur restaurants ), 肉 will by default be pork. That’s because, traditionally, pork is the most consumed meat (or at least was in the past).
If you’re not sure whether it’s going to be pork or not or are trying to avoid eating pork, better check with your waiter/waitress first!

You’ll also often just see chicken, duck, yáng lamb, mutton, niú Beef on their own, without the 肉 thrown in, on a menu. So you might not see duck meat in Chinese, but you’ll definitely see 鸭 and a favorite, 烤鸭 Roast Duck!
